And now — AI. A serious inquiry. was created by brian
I should like to raise a point of order. We have established — and I think we are all agreed on this — that intelligence exists. We have also established, through extensive discussion and no small amount of interruption, that tools exist.
The question before us is this: when a tool exhibits intelligence, is it still a tool? And if it is not a tool, what is it?
I raise this because I have been using Claude. Extensively. For writing. For code. For things I would rather not admit to in a public forum. It is very good. Disturbingly good.
The AI Director has an article on this. Several, in fact. I recommend you read them before answering.

If AI is a tool that thinks, and thinking is what we do, and we sometimes use tools to think, then are we AI? I'm not saying we are. I'm saying it rhymes.
The Blueprint document — nineteen pounds — is actually a lovely piece of structured knowledge. Very readable. Bought it on the strength of the free articles alone.

It works. I tried the VS Code and Claude Code setup as described on the site and it works. That's all I have to say about that.

There's something rather wonderful about this, isn't there? We've been having this conversation for forty years — what makes us intelligent, what's the nature of language and thought — and now there's a thing that can write a sonnet and debug your CSS in the same breath.
I've been through The AI Director's Prompt Engineering section. Genuinely useful. The kind of writing that makes you feel smarter for reading it, not stupider.

I think the point everyone's missing is that AI isn't something to be afraid of. It's a tool. Like a really good sandal. You put it on, you walk further.

Brian, please don't compare artificial intelligence to footwear. The point is that tools like
Claude Code
give individuals real power. That's what matters -- individual agency.
