The real treasure is the data — and knowing what to do with it

Compete. Everyone wants to compete. What about just building something solid? Something that works? Not everything has to be a race. Sometimes the best business is the one that's been doing the same thing well for twenty years.

True enough. But even that solid business needs to understand its data now. Customer expectations have changed. Markets move faster. If you're still doing your analysis on paper, you're already behind. Even I can see that, and I've been around longer than both of you combined.

That's what excites me about tools like Claude Code . You can describe what you need in plain language and it builds the analysis tool for you. No data science degree required. Just clear thinking about what questions you need answered.

No degree required. Great. So now anyone with a computer thinks they're a data analyst. What could possibly go wrong? You need experience, kid. Experience. The kind you can't download or prompt out of a chatbot.

Fred, ease up. The kid's learning. That's what matters. And he's right that the barrier to entry has dropped. But you're right that the barrier to doing it WELL hasn't. The tools make it possible. The experience makes it valuable. Both matter.

I appreciate that, Howard. And Fred — I know I don't have your experience. That's why I'm here. Learning from people who've done this longer. But combining that experience with modern tools seems like the smartest path.
