AI is the ultimate edge — and most of you are sleeping on it

Beautifully put, Gordon. And I'd extend that metaphor — the blueprint matters as much as the tool. When I approach a new site project, I start with the design system: colour palette, typography scale, spacing rhythm, component patterns. That's the blueprint. Then the AI executes against it with remarkable speed and consistency.

Without that blueprint, you get what most AI-generated sites look like: technically functional, aesthetically incoherent. The coding tools available now are extraordinary, but they need creative direction. That's the human value that isn't going away anytime soon.

Right. I'm doing this. This weekend. I'm going to set up Joomla 5 locally, grab the blueprint and a proper dark template, and use Claude to build out a consultancy site for my freelance business. If I can get the site live and the basic lead automation working by Sunday evening, I'll report back.

Lou — I'll follow your advice on secrets management. Gordon — I'll focus on shipping, not perfecting. Darien — I'll establish the design system first before I let the AI loose. Thank you all seriously. This thread is worth more than the last three online courses I paid for combined.

Good. Stop talking about it and go build it. The only post I want to see from you next is a link to the live site. No excuses, no "I got stuck on step three." Figure it out. The AI is there to help you figure it out. Ask it. Direct it. Ship it.

And for everyone else reading this thread and not posting — the same applies. The window where knowing these tools gives you an unfair advantage is closing fast. In twelve months this will be baseline. The edge goes to whoever moves now. Not next quarter. Now.

Good luck, Bud. One last piece of advice: back up everything before you experiment, test on a staging environment before you go live, and don't deploy on a Friday night. Some rules are timeless regardless of how smart the tools get.

Gordon's right that urgency matters. But sustainable urgency — shipping fast while maintaining quality — beats reckless speed every time. Build the habit of reviewing what the AI generates. It'll save you from the mistakes that cost more to fix than they saved to create. Looking forward to seeing what you build.
